Magearna promo from the Volcanion-EX Special Jumbo Card Pack, released in 2016 to tie in with the film "Volcanion and the Mechanical Marvel." The artwork is by Shin Nagasawa, and the card features a mirror holo finish. Magearna is the Artificial Pokémon, a Steel/Fairy type Mythical Pokémon created 500 years ago by a scientist named Nikola (a nod to Nikola Tesla) as a gift for a princess in the Azoth Kingdom. Its body is essentially a vessel for its true self: the Soul-Heart, an artificial soul created by collecting the life energy of other Pokémon. In its original colour scheme, Magearna's lower body was painted red and white, deliberately resembling a Poké Ball, which some fans speculate may have inspired the modern Poké Ball design within the Pokémon universe. In the film, Magearna lives in the Nebel Plateau alongside Volcanion, a human-hating Mythical Pokémon that runs a sanctuary for abused and abandoned Pokémon. The bond between the two is the emotional centre of the movie, with Volcanion risking its life to rescue Magearna after a corrupt minister steals the Soul-Heart to power a flying fortress. The film was the final entry in the original Pokémon anime continuity before I Choose You! rebooted the movie series.
