Giratina VSTAR Ultra Rare from VSTAR Universe (s12a), released in December 2022. This is the gold card treatment, one of only four golden alternate art Ultra Rares in the set. Giratina, Arceus, Dialga, and Palkia each received one, and together the four cards form a connected illustration by Akira Egawa. They were fittingly placed as the final four cards in the set, closing out the entire Sword & Shield era. Giratina is the third member of Sinnoh's creation trio alongside Dialga and Palkia. In the lore, Arceus created all three: Dialga to govern time, Palkia to govern space, and Giratina to govern antimatter. However, Giratina was banished to the Distortion World for its violent behaviour, a strange dimension where the laws of physics don't apply. It can only observe the real world through reflections, watching from the other side of mirrors and still water. Giratina's two forms reflect this duality. Its Altered Forme is what it takes in the real world, while its Origin Forme is its true shape in the Distortion World, where it resembles a massive serpentine creature with six ghostly tendrils. In Pokémon Platinum, the player travels to the Distortion World to confront Giratina directly after it drags Cyrus through a dimensional rift at the peak of Spear Pillar.
