Tapu Koko GX Hyper Rare from Islands Await You (SM2K), released in March 2017 as part of the Japanese Sun & Moon era. Hyper Rares in this generation featured a distinctive rainbow foil texture, reserved for the most premium versions of GX cards in each set. Tapu Koko is the guardian deity of Melemele Island in Alola, one of four legendary protectors inspired by Hawaiian mythology and traditional tiki carvings. Its design resembles a rooster when its shell mask closes, and it's said to be based on Kū, one of the four major gods in Hawaiian religion. Despite its role as a guardian, Tapu Koko is famously fickle and short-tempered. According to the Pokédex, it forgets what made it angry almost instantly. In the anime, Tapu Koko was the first guardian deity to appear before Ash, gifting him a Z-Ring and later serving as Professor Kukui's final Pokémon in the Manalo Conference exhibition match. Pikachu's victory over Tapu Koko remains one of the most memorable battles from the Sun & Moon series.
